Mercedes-Benz India on Monday launched the plug-in hybrid version of its flagship S-Class sedan in the country, expanding its electrified portfolio alongside internal combustion engine and battery-electric vehicles.

The new S 450e Launch Edition is priced at ₹2.20 crore (ex-showroom), while the higher-spec MANUFAKTUR Edition starts at ₹2.38 crore.

Bookings have opened, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.

“The S-Class embodies Mercedes-Benz’s extraordinary legacy of timeless luxury, setting the global benchmark for automotive excellence,” said Santosh Iyer, Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, at the launch.

Powertrain and range

The S 450e combines a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with an electric motor and a 22-kWh battery pack, producing a combined output of 435 hp and 680 Nm of torque.

Mercedes-Benz said the sedan offers a WLTP-certified electric-only driving range of around 115 km and a claimed fuel efficiency of 32.33 km per litre. The rear-wheel-drive sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds.

Updated design and technology

The refreshed S-Class receives a comprehensive overhaul spanning design, technology and safety. Mercedes-Benz said more than 2,700 components have been newly developed, revised or refined, making it one of the most extensive updates within a single S-Class generation. The sedan features the company’s latest MB.OS operating system, new Digital Light headlamps with micro-LED technology and an expanded suite of safety systems, including up to 15 airbags.
