‘Maa Behen’ actor Arunoday Singh spoke out against the Rs 370 biryani row, saying society needs to take a hard look at itself. The controversy started when web developer Himanshu Jangra made shocking comments on comedian Pranit More’s show, which led to widespread outrage.

‘Maa Behen’, starring Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, and Dharna Durga, has been getting a great response since it came out. The film is funny but also talks about how women are not always treated with respect in our society. Around the same time, the Rs 370 biryani row blew up on the internet and got people very angry. Recently, Arunoday Singh, who plays the kind cop Maheshwari, shared that he felt society needs to stop and think about how it treats women.

Arunoday Singh calls out society’s mindset

Talking to Hindustan Times, Arunoday Singh spoke up against such behaviour and said it should not be allowed in our society. The actor felt that the government, elders, and society as a whole need to step up and take responsibility. “I think we have to take a very deep and hard look at ourselves as a society and a country now. Although I agree schooling and the rest of it but there are also has to be somebody watching out for you. Government, society and elders are suppose to not permit certain kind of behaviour. They are supposed to censor certain kind of behaviour. There are supposed to be laws and consequences and I just find that it is like a wild west suddenly. I pray for the future”, he said.He went a step further and questioned how such behaviour had become normal in today’s times. “How are we here now? How is this us? It just boggles my mind, and nobody does anything it is like everything is permitted”, he said.

What was the Rs 370 biryani row?

The whole issue started when web developer Himanshu Jangra went on comedian Pranit More’s show and said he expected sexual favours from a woman he had taken on a date, just because he spent Rs 370 on her biryani. His comments spread like wildfire on social media and angered a lot of people. Himanshu ended up losing his job over it. Pranit also got a lot of flak for not stopping Himanshu and for laughing at his comments. People were also angry at him for reportedly giving Himanshu a cash prize and sharing the clip online. Pranit deleted his Instagram account after the backlash, but later came back and posted a video saying sorry for what happened on his show.
