Director Chidambaram has finally addressed the reports linking him to a potential project starring Mohanlal. The rumours soared after a social media post shared by Chidambaram’s father, filmmaker Satheesh Pothuval, led many fans to believe that a project featuring Mohanlal was already in the works. However, Chidambaram has now clarified that no such project is currently under development.
Chidambaram on Mohanlal project
Speaking in an interview with MediaOne, Chidambaram said he was unaware of how the rumours began. While admitting that he would love to work with Mohanlal in the future, he stressed that there have been no formal discussions regarding a film.He said, “I don’t know how the rumours about me making a film with Lalettan started. Someone must have said something somewhere and it spread. I have a huge desire to make a film with Lalettan. If I get the opportunity, I will definitely do it. But no discussions regarding such a project have happened.”
‘Balan’ director reveals he has never spoken to Mohanlal
Although the Manjummel Boys’ director has met the veteran actor on multiple occasions, the director said they have never actually had a conversation.He stated, “I have spoken with Mammookka but I haven’t spoken with Lalettan.” When asked about the type of films he would like to make with Mohanlal and Mammootty Chidambaram explained that the story would always be his primary focus.He said, “Lalettan and Mammookka are actors who can adapt to anything. Whatever character you give them, they can become that character. I believe that when casting them in a story, we should bring out the actors in them rather than the stars. That’s how I would like to collaborate with a star.”The filmmaker emphasized that both actors possess remarkable versatility and can fit into a wide variety of narratives. According to him, the focus should be on their acting abilities rather than relying solely on their star image.
Chidambaram shares his dream projects
While discussing Mohanlal, Chidambaram acknowledged the expectations that come with directing one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest stars.He said, “If I bring Lalettan into a film, there has to be a massive impact. He has to twirl his moustache. If Lalettan is there, shouldn’t we give at least that much? His fans expect it. Lalettan’s films are celebrations.”He added, “If Mammookka comes on board, I would like to do a revenge thriller.”Chidambaram concluded by praising both superstars and describing this phase of their careers as one of their finest.
