Fresh hopes for de-escalation have emerged amid the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran after US President Donald Trump claimed that a potential agreement between the two countries is close to completion. Trump stated that only the formal signing of the deal remains and suggested that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen once the agreement is finalized, while the current blockade would continue until then. He also asserted that Iran had agreed not to pursue nuclear weapons and hinted that the deal could be signed in Europe within days. However, Iran has disputed these claims, saying that no final agreement has been reached. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that an official announcement would only be made after negotiators finalize the draft and its terms. He added that Qatar and Pakistan are participating in mediation efforts but alleged that repeated changes in the US position have complicated the diplomatic process. The conflicting statements leave the status of any agreement uncertain.
