Political Interview: Sushmita Dev Expresses Surprise Over Growing Rift Within TMC

Former TMC leader Sushmita Dev addressed the growing speculation over internal unrest within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), expressing surprise at the increasing number of leaders distancing themselves from the party. She remarked that electoral defeats are common in politics but did not expect senior leaders and groups of legislators to move away from the organisation. Responding to questions about travelling with TMC MP Sayani Ghosh, Sushmita said they happened to be on the same flight but denied discussing political plans, adding that developments would become clear in due course. On allegations that dissatisfaction within the party stems from Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership style, she said no single individual should be blamed for an election defeat, as multiple factors contribute to such outcomes. Replying to criticism from Kirti Azad, who reportedly called departing leaders “traitors,” Sushmita defended her decision, stating that her political circumstances in Assam were different and that she made her choice after careful consideration.
