Prince Harry arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday, sparking speculation over a possible reunion with his father, King Charles III, marking what could be their first meeting in 19 months.

His visit coincides with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, and British media have hinted at signs of a possible thaw in the strained relationship between Prince Harry and the King.

According to news agency AP, Harry visited the late monarch’s grave in Windsor to offer his respects and lay flowers. Later in the day, he is scheduled to attend the WellChild Awards in London, a charity event he has long supported.

“For 20 years these Awards have highlighted the courage of young people living with complex health needs and shone a light on the devoted caregivers — family and professionals — who support them every step of the way,” Harry said in a statement put out by the charity. “Their stories remind us of the power of compassion, connection and community,” he added.

Harry’s ties with the royal family have been strained since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California with his wife, Meghan Markle. Tensions escalated further after their interview with Oprah Winfrey, a Netflix docuseries, and Harry’s memoir Spare, which portrayed the royal household as divided and politically motivated.

The last meeting between Harry and King Charles was held in February last year, shortly after the king’s cancer diagnosis. A separate visit in April saw no reunion due to Charles being on a state visit.

Harry’s recent court battle over police protection, which included criticism of the royal institution, had also stalled reconciliation. However, following the case’s conclusion, Harry extended an olive branch: “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.” “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he told the BBC.

He added, “What I’m struggling to forgive, and what I will probably always struggle to forgive, is the decision that was made in 2020 that affects my every single day and that is knowingly putting me and my family in harm’s way.”

With Charles turning 77 and undergoing treatment, he may now be more open to reconnecting — and to spending time with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.

“It would be nice to have that reconciliation part now,” Harry said. “If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them.”
