Shahid on about the big change he made after O’Romeo and Deva

'I want three more people in the room': Shahid Kapoor opens up about the big change he made after ‘O'Romeo’ and Deva's failure

Amid promotions for ‘Cocktail 2’, Shahid Kapoor revealed that following the failure of ‘O’Romeo’ and ‘Deva’, he no longer attends script narrations alone. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, he said films are “extremely unpredictable” and admitted he may not always know which projects to choose. He will next be seen in ‘Farzi Season 2’.

Shahid Kapoor is currently promoting his upcoming film ‘Cocktail 2’, directed by Homi Adajania, in which he stars alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon. The film has garnered a positive response to its songs and trailer, generating significant anticipation ahead of its theatrical release. During the promotions, Shahid revealed that he has begun including his team in script narration sessions, a change in approach following the poor box office performance of his recent films ‘O’Romeo’ and ‘Deva’, which has led him to place less reliance on personal instinct.

Shahid Kapoor on the unpredictable nature of films

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Shahid disclosed that he now seeks input from his team before finalising any project. Addressing the unpredictable nature of the film business, the actor stated, “When you work for so long, you expect to get it right more. But that’s now how it works. How many years you’ve worked has nothing to do with it. Films are extremely unpredictable. Being an actor, you don’t have control over how it does. You have some control, but not full control over even what you do as an actor. It’s the director has to decide the frame.”

The actor acknowledged that while he remains assured of his performance abilities, he has begun to question the reliability of his judgement in selecting films. He added, “One thing I’ve started telling my team now is that maybe I should not be deciding on my scripts. Maybe I know exactly what to do in front of the camera, but maybe I don’t know which films to choose or my criteria might be driven by a pure artistic instinct, and that might not land. So, now I actually insist on narrations not alone. I used to always do them alone, but I’ve changed that. It’s a big change that has happened in my life after these two films. I want three more people in the room now, so that I’m not the only one imagining it a certain way.”

Shahid Kapoor’s upcoming projects

Following ‘Cocktail 2’, Shahid Kapoor is set to appear in ‘Farzi Season 2’, directed by Raj & DK. No further projects have been announced by the actor at this stage. Go to Source
