‘Why would any American kid go into engineering if he thinks….’: Fox News’ Laura Ingraham asks Republican leader on his anti-H-1B bill

'Why would any American kid go into engineering if he thinks....': Fox News' Laura Ingraham asks Republican leader on his anti-H-1B bill

Fox News anchor asks Chip Roy why Republican Congressmen too supported the H-1B visa program for so long.

As conservative news host and Fox journalist Laura Ingraham interviewed Republican Congressman Chip Roy on his new proposed legislation against the H-1B visa program, Ingraham told Roy that Congressmen from both parties are “culpable” for the abuse of the visa program because a lot of big donors kept the wages at the minimal level and kept on insisting that they could not find any American to do those jobs with those wage levels.”Why would any American kid go into engineering if he thinks they (companies) are going to pull in someone from India or Pakistan or China, to replace them in a couple of years? Why? Laura asked Roy.”My son is a rising junior and my daughter is a rising sophomore. We are looking at colleges and trying to figure out what we are going to do. Three-quarters of American STEM students can’t find employment after college. That’s the reality when you have corporate America doing what they’ve been doing for years, which is importing cheap labor, because it looks good in a Wall Street Journal editorial or the Chamber of Commerce talking points,” Chip Roy said, adding that Republicans too did that. Roy then blames the Democrats for still pushing for immigration, leading to a flurry of scams.Chip Roy’s legislation against the H-1B visa program proposed to end the lottery system, which for the first time this year, switched from a random lottery to a wage-based lottery. Roy wants an end to the lottery system and a merit-based selection to replace it.

Chip Roy’s anti-H1B proposals

  • Prohibit employers from hiring H1-B workers if they’ve laid off workers in the last year.
  • Terminate H1-B lottery and instead reviews applicants based on merit.
  • End adjustment of status allowing H1-B visa holders to apply for lawful permanent residency which undercuts the visa’s intended temporary status.
  • Labor market test conducted by DOL and USCIS to review employers’ hiring practices to ensure they made an effort to hire locals/Americans first.
  • Abolish the Optional Practical Training program, which drives foreign displacement of American workers in STEM jobs
