The Malayalam action comedy film, ‘Athiradi’ starring Basil Joseph and Tovino Thomas was released on the big screens on May 14, 2026. After completing its theatrical run it is now set to hit OTT soon, as the official release date has been announced.
OTT release of ‘Athiradi’
The movie will start streaming on SonyLIV from June 19, 2026. The official announcement was shared by the streaming platform on social media, exciting fans about watching the film from the comfort of their homes.Sharing the poster, the makers wrote, “The rivalry you didn’t know you needed! Biggest entertainment fest of the season.”
Plot of ‘Athiradi’
Speaking about the plot, the film follows Samkutty, also known as Sam Boy, an energetic civil engineering student. He is deeply in love with Swathy R. Krishna and dreams of bringing back the college’s famous “Arohan” fest.The event had been banned by the college management after a stampede that happened a few years ago. Despite the challenges, Sam decides to take responsibility for reviving the fest and making it a grand success. However, things become difficult when he comes across Sreekuttan, a former goon who has now become a musician. Sreekuttan was once the reason behind the fest being banned. As disagreements and ego clashes grow between him and Sam, the situation becomes more intense.Soon, Sreekuttan returns to his old image as “Thotta” Kuttan and decides to stop the fest from happening again. What follows is a series of problems, conflicts and unexpected moments that create the main story of the film. The rivalry between the two characters becomes one of the biggest highlights of ‘Athiradi’.
Cast of ‘Athiradi’
The film is helmed by debutant Arun Anirudhan. Apart from Basil Joseph and Tovino Thomas, the film features Riya Shibu, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Zarin Shihab, Shaan Rahman, Vishnu Agasthya, P. Sukumar, Shelvin James and Jeo Baby in important roles.The movie also includes cameo appearances by Hashir H., Darshana Rajendran, Devan and others.
