Tesla has launched the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive in India at an introductory price of ₹50.89 lakh, as the Elon Musk-led firm expands its presence in the country’s premium EV segment.

The company said the new variant of the Model Y, which it described as the world’s best-selling EV as of March 2026, comes with a range of hardware, design and cabin upgrades aimed at improving performance and interior sophistication.

The Model Y Premium features an all-black interior theme with a blacked-out headliner and updated premium trim elements. It also gets a larger 16-inch touchscreen with improved responsiveness and a revised user interface for vehicle controls, navigation and entertainment functions.

Tesla is also offering a new “Zen Grey” interior option, designed to provide a more minimalist cabin experience.

The electric SUV offers storage space of up to 2,138 litres and can seat up to five passengers with power-folding seats. Powered by ultra-responsive motors, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds and delivers a claimed driving range of up to 500 km on the WLTP cycle.

Deliveries of the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive are expected to begin in July 2026.

The launch follows Tesla’s recent introduction of the six-seater Tesla Model Y L in India. Priced from ₹61.99 lakh, the Model Y L offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 681 km and cargo space of up to 2,539 litres.

Both Model Y variants have received top safety ratings from agencies including NHTSA, IIHS, Euro NCAP, ANCAP and C-IASI, according to the company.

“Tesla’s mission is to build a world of amazing abundance. Tesla enables the use of electric vehicles by increasing the accessibility of Tesla technology and providing charging solutions around people’s lifestyles,” said Isabel Fan, Senior Director, Tesla.

The company said buyers can purchase the Model Y Premium with EMIs starting from ₹39,990 with a down payment of ₹6 lakh. Tesla also claimed customers could save up to ₹20,000 per month through lower fuel and maintenance costs compared to conventional vehicles.
