‘Why don’t TV actors get national awards?’ Kritika Kamra speaks out

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kritika Kamra stated that the industry categorizes actors by their medium. According to her, this leads to a hierarchy of respect. Sharing her concerns, she said, “For the longest time, I did not believe in this distinction of small and big screen actors.” Kamra further added, “I thought this was just a rough sorting… But actually, even the respect part has been categorized according to that.”Kritika stated that as acting in daily soaps is considered less legitimate, TV actors are consistently overlooked for national recognition. She expressed, “Acting on TV is not considered a craft.”With that, she joined the bandwagon of actors who voiced their opinion on this issue. Earlier, Rupali Ganguly questioned the absence of a dedicated National Award category for television. Kamra went on to add that as TV serials are filmed on an everyday basis, it affects character development and script quality. The actress added that she doesn’t agree with the process of TRP driving the stories of the shows. The actress said that by not recognizing the TV actors with National Awards, “We are also acknowledging that people who work on TV are not artists.” She further shared, “There’s an unsaid understanding that it is a profitable job, but there isn’t art in that.”
