The Conjuring earns Rs 17.50 crore on Day 2

'The Conjuring: Last Rites' box office collection Day 2: Horror film scares off competition from 'Baaghi 4', 'The Bengal Files'; earns Rs 17.50 crore

‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ continued its strong run at the Indian box office on Saturday, scaring off competition from Bollywood titles like ‘Baaghi 4’ and ‘The Bengal Files’, while cementing its position as the top-grossing film of the day.

Box office collections Day 2

According to Sacnilk, the Hollywood horror release collected an estimated Rs 17.50 crore net on Day 2 across all languages, nearly matching its Friday debut numbers. On its opening day, the film also earned an estimated Rs 17.5 crore, including Rs 10 crore from English shows, Rs 6.35 crore from Hindi versions, and Rs 1.15 crore from Tamil and Telugu dubs. With this consistency, the film’s two-day net total has reached Rs 35 crore in India. Of this, English screenings contributed approximately Rs 20.25 crore, while Hindi shows added Rs 12.35 crore.

Last Rites hits Rs 35 crore mark

This milestone makes The Conjuring: Last Rites the seventh highest-grossing Hollywood horror release in India, standing just behind Evil Dead Rise (Rs 36.50 crore). Notably, the film has touched Rs 35 crore in just two days, a feat rarely seen in the genre for a Hollywood release in the country.

Worldwide box office collections

On the international front, early estimates place overseas earnings at around Rs 125 crore, pushing the worldwide total to nearly Rs 250 crore within just two days of release. Directed by Michael Chaves, the film features Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Mia Tomlinson, and Ben Hardy in lead roles, concluding the long-running and globally acclaimed Conjuring Universe.

Racing towards Rs 50 crore weekend

Industry analysts note that if the film sustains momentum on Sunday, it could cross the Rs 50 crore mark by the end of its opening weekend. From there, it could challenge the lifetime collections of ‘The Conjuring 2’ which earned Rs 61.80 crore. The highest-grossing Hollywood horror film in India remains ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ which earned Rs 62.12 crore.

Bollywood left behind

Meanwhile, its domestic rivals lagged far behind. Tiger Shroff’s actioner ‘Baaghi 4’ collected Rs 12 crore on its opening day and dropped to Rs 9 crore on Saturday, well short of ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ collections. ‘The Bengal Files’ also struggled to make an impact, earning around Rs 3.5 crore in total.

Sanjay Gupta reacts to Hollywood takeover

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta reacted to the trend, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “Me in my 20’s/30’s could never imagine an English film outperforming a Hindi film. Today’s reality — An English horror film does double the business of a mainstream Hindi action film. What changed???”With glowing word-of-mouth reviews, high occupancy across formats, and great buzz over the film being the final instalment in the franchise, ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ is poised to become a landmark release in India’s horror box office history.
