Oscar-winning actress Penélope Cruz has shared details of a frightening health scare that unfolded while she was filming her latest movie, ‘The Black Ball’.Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, the actress revealed that she feared the worst after being told about a possible brain aneurysm concern shortly before an important shoot.

Penélope Cruz recalls shocking moment

The actress said the incident happened just before she was due to film a night sequence for ‘The Black Ball’. As she prepared for the shoot, she received unexpected information regarding her health. Recalling the moment, Penélope Cruz said, “When we were about to go out, I was putting on my wig, and they said, ‘Oh, apparently you have some brain aneurysm.’ I thought I was about to die. This is something that was totally surreal in my life.”The actress explained that the news came without warning and left her deeply shaken. For a brief period, she believed she was facing a serious medical emergency.

Doctors later gave her the all-clear

Despite the initial fear and uncertainty Penélope Cruz revealed that medical examinations later brought reassuring news.As reported by femalefirst.co.uk., the actress admitted that she initially thought there had been some mistake or misunderstanding. Fortunately doctors evaluated her condition and cleared her to continue working. Filming resumed as planned and Penélope Cruz was able to return to the set the following day.The episode, however, left a lasting impression on her and became an experience she felt was important to discuss publicly.

Penélope Cruz praises cast and crew support

While reflecting on the health scare Penélope Cruz expressed gratitude towards the team behind The Black Ball. She said the production continued despite the unexpected situation and praised those around her for offering encouragement and understanding during a stressful time.”The shooting was not going to stop. And for me, talking about these things is very important.””It’s important to share information about where such characters take you – you experience these things together, yet despite all this, despite the hardship, you can move forward in life, and I think they’re the only people who knew all these details and they provided such incredible support.”

Why ‘The Black Ball’ connected with her

In the film, Penélope Cruz plays Nene, a cabaret singer who has a meaningful role in the story. The actress explained that the size of a role has never influenced her choice of projects. Instead, she focuses on stories that connect with her emotionally and artistically.”I don’t base my decision on the number of minutes my character is in the script. I want to be part of things that are important, that speak to me. When I read this script, I discovered this fantastic story and I felt it would be wonderful to be part of something that’s even more important than just one more film.”Penélope Cruz said the film’s focus on LGBTQ+ experiences and social issues strongly appealed to her. The actress explained that themes of equality and fairness have always been important to her.”I have a very strong reaction towards anything that doesn’t seem fair. So when I see people struggling and fighting for rights that should never be questionable, that creates a very, very strong reaction in me that I need to put somewhere. And fortunately, I’ve been able to put it in the films that I do through my characters.”Directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, ‘The Black Ball’ explores the interconnected lives of three gay men.
