Tensions flared in Lucknow as ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) members staged a protest outside the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, condemning the police lathi charge on students in Barabanki a day earlier. The protest saw students raising slogans like “Police-Prashasan Murdabad” and demanding strict action against officials responsible for the violence. The protestors, primarily students and ABVP leaders, alleged that two students are in a coma due to brutal police action at Ram Swaroop University in Barabanki. They claimed the students were peacefully protesting over academic grievances when the police used excessive force. Protesters also accused certain government officials of shielding university authorities due to personal connections. ABVP is demanding the immediate arrest and FIR against the concerned Circle Officer (CO) and stronger action than mere suspension or transfer. They also criticized the state government for failing to act on the university’s irregularities over the past three years. Despite heavy police presence, about a dozen protesters reached the Vidhan Sabha gate, prompting quick detentions. Protesters were taken to Eco Garden in police vans. The incident comes even as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered an inquiry, but ABVP maintains the response so far is inadequate and politically motivated.
