The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the pleas filed by the National Investigation Agency and the son of Kanhaiya Lal, the Udaipur tailor murdered in 2022, seeking cancellation of the bail granted to one of the accused.
A bench consisting of Justices M M Sundresh and Satish Chandra Sharma declined to interfere with the Rajasthan High Court’s decision to grant bail to Mohammed Javed.

The apex court was hearing appeals from the NIA and Yash Teli, Lal’s son, against the High Court’s order granting bail to Javed.
Teli’s lawyer argued that Javed played a crucial role by providing the assailants with information about Lal’s whereabouts. He claimed that the High Court erred in granting bail without thoroughly considering the severity of Javed’s involvement.
The plea highlighted that the murder occurred amid a communally charged atmosphere. It alleged that the prime accused had conspired, gathered weapons, conducted reconnaissance, and deployed Javed to relay the deceased’s location.
On the day of the incident, the assailants entered Lal’s shop disguised as customers. While Lal was taking their measurements, they planted a camera, shouted communal slogans, and murdered him, the plea asserted.
According to the NIA, Javed worked at a shop near Lal’s and provided the assailants with real-time information about Lal’s location during the crime. The NIA is currently investigating the incident.
Lal was brutally murdered at his shop in the bustling Hathipole area of Udaipur on June 28, 2022, by two men wielding cleavers, allegedly for supporting a social media post against Islam.
The two accused, Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Gause, filmed the act and posted the video online.
