The ‘Files’ franchise is getting a new addition, but this one comes without Vivek Agnihotri at the helm. The trailer for the Marathi film ‘The Maharashtra Files’ was launched on May 18, giving audiences a first look at what promises to be a hard-hitting political drama revolving around corruption, land acquisition, and the misuse of power. Directed by Sanjivkumar Rathod, the film is all set to arrive in theatres on May 29, 2026.

‘The Maharashtra Files’ trailer shows farmers fighting against a corrupt system

The nearly three-minute trailer shows a dark world where corruption runs deep and the powerful walk all over the powerless. The story kicks off with a proposed 40-km four-lane national highway project that sparks a major political and social conflict. On one side are farmers fighting hard to save their lands, and on the other are politicians, officials, and rich businessmen who bend the rules to serve their own interests.

‘The Maharashtra Files’ trailer raises hard-hitting questions about power and justice

The trailer shows how development is being used as an excuse to grab land from ordinary people, featuring stories of unfair compensation, misuse of power, and suspicious deaths. Farmers and labourers are shown seething with anger as they come together to fight back against a system that has always favoured the rich and powerful. A hard-hitting dialogue asking why the wealthy keep getting richer while common people struggle to survive gives the trailer its punch and sets up what looks like a bold and fearless political thriller.

‘The Maharashtra Files’ features an ensemble cast including Sunny Leone and Sapna Chaudhary

‘The Maharashtra Files’ has a strong cast that includes Mangesh Desai, Usha Nadkarni, Sayaji Shinde, and Nagesh Bhosale, with Sunny Leone, Sapna Chaudhary, and Gautami Patil also appearing in the film. The film looks like a bold political drama that tackles corruption, land disputes, the unfair treatment of farmers, and the misuse of power, all tied together by the story of a highway project and the trouble it brings with it.
