An active shooter was reported at the Islamic Center of San Diego Monday as helicopter footage revealed that at least one person in a tactical vest appeared to have been shot. Hundreds of police vehicles lined up outside the center only minutes after the initial call came in for an active shooter. An elementary school next to the Islamic Center was also evacuated by police as were adults still inside the center. Cops are frantically searching the neighborhood, going door to door to find the shooter, per KGTV San Diego.“I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area,” Mayor Todd Gloria posted to X. Public in the surrounding neighborhoods were advised to shelter in place in their homes and to avoid the area.”The scene at 7050 Eckstrom Ave is still active but contained. We have significant resources on scene at this time. We have established a reunification location at 4125 Hathaway Street, SD, CA 92111,” San Diego police updated.”Gavin Newsom has been briefed on an evolving situation in Clairemont community of San Diego, near the Islamic Center. The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (@Cal_OES) is coordinating with local law enforcement. We are grateful to the first responders on the scene working to protect the community and urge everyone to follow guidance from local authorities,” Newsom’s press office posted.
