The Boys’ is officially coming to an end. The dark superhero series is concluding after five seasons, and the teaser trailer for the eighth and final episode has landed, giving fans one last look at Butcher, Hughie, Starlight and the rest of the crew before they set off to go “scorched earth” on Homelander. With the loss of some major players along the way, the stakes have never been higher as the remaining characters head into their last battle. The studio behind the series has released the trailer showing Butcher, played by Karl Urban, front and centre, with his voice-over declaring, “We need to end the whole bloody notion of Supes.” It also features what appears to be an emotional reunion between Ryan, played by Cameron Crovetti, and his biological father, Homelander, played by Antony Starr.
What the ‘The Boys’ Season 5 Episode 8 trailer reveals
The final face-off appears to be honouring the original comics, with Butcher and his gang infiltrating the White House. Kimiko is shown in the trailer, and with the supe virus potentially in hand, the possibility of destroying Homelander has become very real. However, following the passing of Frenchie, Kimiko’s emotional state remains a question mark. Whether grief proves to be a liability or a source of motivation heading into the final confrontation remains to be seen. Notable by their absence from the trailer are the ‘Gen V’ characters, including Marie. Showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that those characters will not receive a definitive conclusion, explaining that the cancellation of ‘Gen V’ came as a shock and that the series finale was not written with the knowledge that it would be the last chance to wrap up the Godolkin storylines.
Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy will not appear in the finale
Another significant absence is Jensen Ackles’ character Soldier Boy, whose last scene appeared in season five, episode seven, when Homelander places him back into his cryo chamber. Kripke confirmed the character will not feature in the finale, saying in an interview, “Knowing that that was going to be Jensen’s last scene in the series, we wanted to put in one last reference.” It serves as a quiet send-off for one of the show’s most memorable additions. With the finale fast approaching, ‘The Boys’ is set to close out one of the most acclaimed and provocative superhero series in recent television history.
