Man arrested on suspicion of rape after woman alleges assault near church in Maidstone

Kent Police on Wednesday arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of rape after a woman was allegedly assaulted near a church in Maidstone, according to a report by The Sun.Police said they had received a report late on Saturday that “a woman had been raped by a man she met earlier that evening”.According to the report, the alleged assault took place at two separate locations between 7 pm and 10 pm, first at a venue on the high street and later near a church in the town.Police said the suspect remains in custody while enquiries continue. The area has also been cordoned off as part of the ongoing investigation.The police have also asked the local residents with private CCTV or drivers with dash cam, who may have been in the area at the time of the incident, to check for footage. These footages could help the officers piece together her activities that night.There have been more police patrols in the vicinity of some parts of Maidstone. Individuals who walked around in the affected area reported seeing police tape and vehicles patrolling the neighbourhood in addition to experts in forensic science looking around near the church and town centre on Sunday morning.Community figures in Maidstone showed concern regarding the situation after hearing about the reported incidents. Some individuals revealed that they were shocked after being informed that there were two different places linked to the same inquiry within the town. The authorities suggested that people seeking any help due to distress caused by the reports could seek assistance from community groups and victim support services.Anyone who might have knowledge pertaining to the matter was urged to report it to Kent Police immediately via emergency services, referring to reference number 46/73799/25.
