Terrorist killed, Poonch infiltration bid foiled

JAMMU: The Army foiled Tuesday an infiltration attempt in Krishna Ghati (KG) sector of J&K’s Poonch by killing a terrorist along the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.“Acting on specific inputs, troops noticed suspicious movements around 300 metres inside the Indian side of LoC around 4pm during sustained surveillance operations,” an official said. The troops engaged the terrorist and shot him dead, ensuring there was no LoC breach. Searches are continuing to ensure no more intruders are lurking in the zone. “One intruder has been neutralised. Troops continue to dominate the area and maintain a high state of operational readiness. White Knight stands vigilant — every infiltration bid will fail,” a spokesperson for the Army’s White Knight Corps posted.Tuesday’s operation followed similar sneak-in bids in Jammu region in recent months. On March 10 this year, troops gunned down a Pakistani terrorist and injured another during a gun battle along the LoC in Jhangar area of Rajouri. The slain man was identified as Hamza Yousaf, an operative of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). An AK-47 rifle and ammunition was found at the site. Before that, the Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the LoC in Bhimber Gali (BG) sector of Poonch on March 4 and another bid in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri on Feb 19. On Dec 12 last year, BSF troops arrested Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist Abdul Khaliq a with a large cache of arms during an infiltration attempt in Jammu’s Akhnoor area. Rajouri’s Khaliq had crossed over to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 2021 for arms training. He returned later to recruit youths in Rajouri and Poonch.
