A new wave of post-election violence has been reported from West Bengal, where Chandranath Rath, personal assistant of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was brutally killed in a targeted shooting in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas. According to reports, Rath was returning home when attackers intercepted his vehicle near Dariya Mor. A silver car allegedly blocked the road, after which bike-borne assailants opened fire at close range. Rath was hit by three bullets—two in the chest and one in the stomach—and died on the spot. His driver sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. Eyewitnesses reported multiple rounds of gunfire, shattered car windows, and panic in the residential area. Police and forensic teams have seized the vehicle, recovered live cartridges and shells, and are examining CCTV footage. Officials also noted that the attackers used a fake or tampered number plate. The incident has intensified political tension, raising serious concerns about law and order in the state amid ongoing post-poll unrest.
