The constituency forms part of the Kallakurichi Lok Sabha constituency and typically witnesses electoral contests involving the Dravidian parties, particularly the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), reflecting the broader political pattern across the region.In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,18,854 electors, of which 1,75,981 valid votes were polled. AIADMK candidate Maruthamuthu A secured victory with 74,301 votes, defeating DMK candidate Rekha Priyadharshini J, who received 72,039 votes.
