The Election Commission has ordered repolling in all 285 booths of West Bengal’s Falta Assembly constituency following allegations of voting irregularities, including EVM tampering and voter intimidation during the 29 April polling phase. The fresh voting will be held on 21 May from 7 AM to 6 PM, while counting will take place on 24 May, even as results for 293 other seats will be declared on 4 May. The decision came after complaints of disruption in the voting process, alleged threats to voters, and incidents of violence, prompting demands for central security deployment. The contest in Falta is mainly between TMC’s Jahangir Khan and BJP’s Devanshu Pandey, with both parties exchanging sharp political accusations. The constituency, already sensitive due to past political violence in West Bengal, is now under tight security as both parties intensify preparations ahead of the re-election.
