The Election Commission has ordered a re-poll in the Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal after allegations of irregularities during voting on April 29. The fresh voting will be held on May 21 from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, while counting of votes will take place on May 24. Results for the remaining 293 Assembly seats will be declared on May 4. The decision follows complaints of disruption in the voting process, allegations of voter intimidation, EVM-related issues, and reports of sporadic violence. Locals also staged protests demanding re-polling, which led the Election Commission to review the situation and order fresh voting across all booths in Falta. The main contest is between Jahangir Khan of TMC and Devanshu Panda of BJP. The constituency, part of the Diamond Harbour region and located near Kolkata in South 24 Parganas, has a long political history, shifting from Left dominance to TMC control in recent elections. Alongside this, election preparations across West Bengal for counting day are complete, with heavy deployment of observers and security. Political tensions remain high as parties make strong claims ahead of results.
