The Election Commission has ordered a re-poll in the Falta Assembly constituency in West Bengal following allegations of irregularities during voting on April 29. The fresh polling will take place on May 21 from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, while vote counting is scheduled for May 24. Results for the remaining 293 Assembly seats will be declared on May 4. The decision was taken after complaints of disruption in the voting process, alleged voter intimidation, EVM-related issues, and reports of sporadic violence. Local residents also demanded re-polling, leading the Election Commission to review the situation and order fresh voting. The main contest in Falta is between Jahangir Khan of TMC and Devanshu Panda of BJP. The constituency, once a Left stronghold, has largely been dominated by TMC in recent elections. Located in South 24 Parganas near the Hooghly River and close to Kolkata, Falta is part of the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha area. The re-poll has made it a key political focus in West Bengal.
