Pune Horror: Outrage After Brutal Assault and Murder of 3.5-Year-Old, Protesters Demand Justice

A wave of raw fury and collective grief has gripped the Nasrapur region of Pune following the bone-chilling rape and murder of a 3.5-year-old girl that surfaced on May 1st. The victim, who had arrived at her maternal grandmother’s home to enjoy her summer vacations, was allegedly abducted, brutally assaulted, and murdered by a 65-year-old man—a crime so heinous it has sparked unprecedented public outrage and left the community in a state of utter shock. In the wake of this horror, Nasrapur has observed a total shutdown of markets and businesses, while thousands of residents paralyzed the Pune-Bengaluru Highway with a massive Chakka Jam to demand immediate retribution. Local women have initiated a Thiya Andolan (sit-in protest) at the village square, expressing a deep lack of faith in the traditional judicial timeline and calling for an immediate encounter or the public execution of the accused. The atmosphere remains extremely volatile as grieving parents and neighbors demand to know how their children can ever be safe if such “monsters” are allowed to exist. To maintain order and prevent a complete breakdown of law, the Pune Police has deployed heavy reinforcements, including State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) units, across the sensitive zones of Nasrapur. While senior officials have promised that the case will be moved to a Fast-Track Court within 15 days, the community remains defiant and has issued a stern ultimatum to the administration: if the accused is not sentenced to death or dealt with decisively within two weeks, they will resume their highway blockade indefinitely. As the village prepares for a massive candle march, the demand for “justice now” echoes through the streets, signaling that the people of Pune will not rest until the ultimate penalty is served for this unforgivable breach of humanity.
