Namashi says he is different from star kids: ‘Ranbir, Sunny don’t…’

Mithun Chakraborty’s son Namashi says he is not Bollywood child, grew up away from Mumbai: 'Ranbir, Sunny don't feel pressure...'

Namashi Chakraborty is forging his own path in Bollywood, emphasizing merit over legacy. Growing up away from Mumbai, he navigated the industry without leveraging his family’s fame, including his mother Yogeeta Bali’s acting career. He believes talent overshadows the pressure of being a star kid, focusing on delivering quality work and earning roles independently.

Namashi Chakraborty is carving his own path in the film industry, determined to succeed on merit rather than legacy. In a recent exclusive, he opened up about growing up away from Mumbai and navigating the expectations of being a star kid.

Not just Mithun Chakraborty’s son

The actor highlighted that he is not just Mithun Chakraborty’s son but also Yogeeta Bali’s, pointing out that while people often focus on his father, his mother was a well-known actor in her own right.

Pressure of being a star kid

In conversation with Galatta India, he further explained that star kids don’t necessarily feel pressure, but public perception is shaped by his father’s legendary status. He noted that matching Mithun Chakraborty’s 48-year-long career would require not just talent but an extraordinary destiny, making it unfair to compare a newcomer with a legend.Namashi further said he feels pressure only to deliver consistent, quality work as an actor; otherwise, being a star kid would draw criticism and rejection. He added that many star children, like Akshaye Khanna, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Sunny and Bobby Deol, don’t feel undue pressure because their talent speaks for itself. He also explained that his journey differs from many star kids because he prefers earning work on his own merit. He said he hasn’t relied on anyone else for opportunities and has always wanted to be independent, confident that he could secure roles without leveraging his family name.

Auditions and determination

Namashi recalled going through numerous auditions in Aaram Nagar, Andheri West, where no one knew his identity. Despite facing repeated rejections, he never asked for special treatment as a star kid. He described himself simply as another actor trying to make it, spending hours in queues and driven by a relentless determination to succeed.

Growing up away from Mumbai

He revealed that he grew up largely away from Mumbai. His family moved to Ooty in 1994 when he was two, and he spent the next 12 formative years there, growing up in Tamil Nadu. He returned to Mumbai only in 2015 at age 15, without having star kids as friends or being familiar with the city, making his upbringing quite different from typical Bollywood children. On the work front, Namashi will next be seen as an antagonist in The Bengal Files, set to release in cinemas on September 5. He also has Vikram Bhatt’s jungle action-adventure Viraat, scheduled for release next year. Go to Source
