During polling in West Bengal, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari alleged that he was attacked and surrounded by a crowd while visiting a booth near the Kalighat and Bhabanipur region. He claimed that “outsiders” and ruling party supporters tried to obstruct his movement and immediately demanded deployment of CRPF forces at booth number 217. Adhikari further accused the ruling All India Trinamool Congress of being responsible for the situation and described the supporters as “party-backed goons,” claiming that polling was being influenced. However, counter-claims from TMC leaders, including Kajori Banerjee, rejected the allegations, stating that no attack took place and that Adhikari was attempting to influence voters during his booth visits. Central security forces later intervened to separate both sides and restore order in the area. The incident has added fresh political tension to an already high-voltage election atmosphere in Bengal.
