French haute couture took over Barcelona’s bridal catwalk on Wednesday evening with a showcase brimming with optimism and emotion. French designer Stéphane Rolland took centre stage at the tenth edition of Barcelona Bridal Night, held as part of Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week. Hall 8 at the Montjuïc venue played host to the show, marking the designer’s Spanish debut and placing him alongside a roll-call of international houses invited to the gala, including names such as Marchesa, Viktor&Rolf, Elie Saab, Giambattista Valli, and Vivienne Westwood, the latest headliner for the 2025 edition.

With the title ‘Love for Peace,’ Rolland, together with Pierre Martinez, who oversees artistic direction at the maison, presented a show that fused fashion, live music, and poetry. The concept spotlighted the transmission of the craft between generations and a vision of bridal fashion rooted in optimism and celebration. “Bridal fashion speaks of hope, joy, and life, and that is why we wanted to open the show to young talent in fashion and music,” explained the designer, emphasising that the collection “is a message of continuity, of positivity, and a yes to life, to the future and to love.”

A space for young talent

The evening opened with an opening runway show in which emerging local talent took pride of place. A total of 23 designs created by students from IED Barcelona, LCI Barcelona, and ESDI took to the catwalk as part of the ‘Sculpted by Nature’ project, developed under the direct tutelage of the French designer. The creations, crafted from fabrics supplied by the Catalan company Gratacós, explored the relationship between nature and volume through sculptural silhouettes.

Following this, the couturier presented around 80 looks on the catwalk, including his new ready-to-wear bridal collection ‘Noce de Sang,’ alongside a selection of haute couture designs and iconic red-carpet pieces from his archive. The looks were modelled by leading figures including the emblematic Nieves Álvarez and Laura Sánchez, alongside Ariadna Gutiérrez, Davinia Pelegrí, and Marta Ortiz, among others.

The looks stood out for their architectural volumes, precision cuts, and sculptural silhouettes- hallmarks of the designer- while the colour palette was dominated by bridal white, with a series of evening and red-carpet designs in red or black and touches of gold. All of it was set to a live performance by the Barcelona Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Carlos Checa, and featured actress Nathalie Poza, who delivered readings and songs at various points during the show.

At the close of the show, Rolland offered words of thanks to the organisers and to Albasarí Caro, the event’s director. “We are very proud and happy to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Barcelona Bridal Night,” he said, to applause from the audience. The couturier also reiterated his praise for Pierre Martinez for the show’s artistic direction, as well as for the orchestra that enlivened the evening and the new generation of designers, who helped create “a fantastic moment.”

A member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, Rolland founded his house in 2007 after stints at Balenciaga and Jean-Louis Scherrer, where he became the youngest artistic director in French haute couture. As part of a charitable initiative, the designer donated 22 original sketches ahead of bridal week, now on display at The Museum, to raise funds for the Kálida Foundation, which supports people undergoing cancer treatment and their families.

Organised by Fira de Barcelona with the support of the Departament d’Empresa i Treball of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week will continue its runway schedule until Friday. Meanwhile, its trade fair will take place in Halls 1 and 2 of the venue from Friday to Sunday, welcoming almost 420 brands from 37 countries, specialising in bridalwear, ceremony and evening dresses, and accessories.
