Gold Silver Rate Today:Gold and silver prices edged lower on Monday, weighed down by subdued demand and negative global signals, even as markets brace for a crucial week driven by geopolitical developments and key economic data.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for June delivery declined Rs 1,310, or 0.85 per cent, to Rs 1,53,299 per 10 grams, with a turnover of 1,119 lots. The fall came amid weak spot demand and softer international trends. In global markets, gold futures dropped 0.87 per cent to $4,788.31 per ounce in New York.
Silver also remained under pressure at the start of the week, tracking the overall weakness in precious metals.
Despite Monday’s decline, analysts expect heightened volatility ahead. Escalating tensions in West Asia, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, and a series of macroeconomic releases, including US retail sales, housing data and consumer sentiment, are likely to shape the near-term direction for bullion.
Geopolitical uncertainty has intensified after Iran reversed its decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz following the US’s continued blockade of its ports. The situation has added to volatility, with India also raising concerns after two of its oil-carrying vessels altered course following an encounter with Iranian forces.
Last week, bullion prices had posted gains, with gold rising Rs 1,957, or 1.3 per cent, to settle at Rs 1.54 lakh per 10 grams, while silver surged Rs 13,868, or 5.7 per cent, to Rs 2.57 lakh per kg on the MCX.
Analysts noted that safe-haven demand, a weaker dollar and improving sentiment in industrial metals had supported prices in recent sessions. However, ongoing policy uncertainty and geopolitical risks continue to drive sharp swings in the market.
Looking ahead, investors will also track developments around the US Federal Reserve, including the Senate confirmation hearing of Kevin Warsh as the new Fed Chair, which could influence expectations around future interest rate moves.
