The political controversy over the Women’s Reservation Bill has intensified after it failed in the Lok Sabha. What began in Parliament has now escalated into a nationwide political confrontation, moving from parliamentary debates to streets and public protests. Following the Prime Minister’s address to the nation, political exchanges between the ruling and opposition parties have become sharper, with both sides accusing each other and organizing demonstrations. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strongly attacked the opposition, comparing their conduct in Parliament to the “disrobing of Draupadi” and accusing them of blocking women’s rights. He alleged that the opposition INDIA bloc, including Congress, Samajwadi Party, TMC, and DMK, acted against women’s empowerment and conspired to derail the bill. He also claimed that public anger is directed against these parties for obstructing progressive reforms. In response, Akhilesh Yadav countered the ruling party’s claims, calling the bill’s failure a defeat of BJP’s intentions. He accused the BJP of using the bill for political gain, dividing society, and lacking proper preparation. He said the opposition unity defeated the government’s agenda and described it as a victory of democracy and public awareness. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also criticized the opposition during a rally in Bengal, accusing them of denying women 33% reservation due to political motives and calling their actions an insult to women and the Constitution.
