Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav strongly criticized the Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it a political move by the BJP rather than a genuine step toward women’s empowerment. He alleged that the bill is designed to divide women on social lines and weaken the unity of marginalized groups, especially the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, and Alpasankhyak) communities. According to him, the bill is not focused on granting real rights but on creating electoral advantages and hiding larger issues such as unemployment, inflation, and women’s safety concerns. He also questioned the government’s intent regarding census and delimitation, arguing that without updated population data, fair reservation cannot be ensured. Akhilesh claimed that the bill could actually reduce effective representation of backward and minority women rather than strengthen it. He emphasized that opposition parties support women’s rights but oppose what they see as flawed implementation and hidden political motives. The opposition demanded that a proper census be conducted first, followed by a transparent delimitation process before implementing any reservation system. Overall, the speech framed the bill as a politically motivated step rather than a genuine reform for women’s empowerment.
