'Real Congress with TVK': Vijay targets 'powerless' Stalin, calls DMK bloc 'cash-box alliance'

NEW DELHI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Wednesday mounted a sharp attack on the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, claiming that had chief minister MK Stalin had “full power,” the Tirunelveli event would not have been allowed to take place. In a big claim, Vijay also said that the “real Congress” was aligned with the TVK.”The CM would have put some kind of obstacle and prevented us from coming. But now, this is a caretaker government as it is called, and he’s a CM without authority,” Vijay was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.Follow assembly election 2026 coverage hereLabeling the DMK-led front a “cash-box alliance,” the actor-turned-politician alleged it was stitched together with “looted” funds. He further claimed the partners lack cohesion, saying members of the alliance “wouldn’t even vote for one another.”In a jibe at the Congress, Vijay accused the DMK of having “bought over” the grand-old party’s Tamil Nadu unit with “crores,” while insisting that the “real Congress” is aligned with the TVK.Underscoring the importance of upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections for his party’s, he added: “For others, this may just be an election, but for those in the TVK, it is an emotion.” In Tamil Nadu, the main contest is expected between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), which includes the Congress, DMDK and VCK, and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the BJP and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). Vijay, making his electoral debut with TVK, is aiming to turn the contest into a three-cornered fight. The state will vote on April 23 and the results will be announced on May 4.
