Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday promoted Alok Jaitley as Executive Officer – Homologation, in a move to strengthen the company’s regulatory and certification capabilities amid rapidly evolving automotive norms in India and overseas.

His elevation comes at a time when regulatory requirements around emissions, safety, and sustainability are tightening across markets. The carmaker said Jaitley’s technical depth and regulatory experience will be critical to ensuring that its product portfolio remains compliant, future-ready, and globally competitive.

With a career spanning more than 35 years in the automotive industry, Jaitley will continue to lead the Homologation & Regulation vertical, where he will oversee a wide spectrum of responsibilities. These include vehicle and environmental regulations, domestic and export compliance, homologation testing, certification, and aligning Maruti Suzuki’s processes with global regulatory frameworks.

He brings extensive cross-functional expertise from roles across Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) and Body Engineering, equipping him to navigate the complexities of homologation, regulatory transitions, and the development of next-generation vehicle platforms, the company said.

Previous leadership roles

Beyond his leadership role at Maruti Suzuki, Jaitley is an active contributor to national and international automotive policy formulation. He holds key positions in several government and industry bodies, including President, Society of Automotive Fitness and Environment (SAFE); Co-Chair, SIAM CSR (Crash Safety Regulation) Group, and Member of Indian government delegations at the United Nations, participating in General Safety Regulations and the Working Party on Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles (GRVA) Through these roles, he has played a significant part in shaping India’s vehicle safety framework, harmonising domestic standards with UN regulations, and advancing India’s engagement in global automotive governance.

Recently, Maruti also carried out a senior leadership rejig, under which Tapan Sahoo was given the additional charge of the Information Technology (IT) vertical, effective April 1, 2026. He also heads the Digital Enterprise (DE) and Information & Cyber Security functions for the company.
