Akshay says he didn’t get any help from cousin Vivek

Vivek Oberoi's cousin and actor Akshay Oberoi hints at feud between their families, reveals he didn't get any help from the 'Saathiya' star: 'Punjabi ego clashes'

Vivek Oberoi became a star overnight with his first film ‘Company’ which was followed by the hit ‘Saathiya’ with Rani Mukerji. While both these movies got a solid response from the audience, Vivek got immediate success in the industry. However, he saw struggle before he bagged these movies. He did not get any help from his father Suresh Oberoi for launching him. He had to find his own path. Not many are aware that actor Akshay Oberoi is Vivek’s cousin. In a recent interview, Akshay opened up on his equation with Vivek and his family. He said that when he first landed in Mumbai to struggle for becoming an actor, he did not get any help from Vivek and nobody knew that they were related to each other. But it’s only in the recent years since Akshay also started getting famous, that people are realising they come from the same Oberoi family. He said in an interview with ‘Cryrus Says’, “Unfortunately, for whatever reason, there wasn’t really a line of communication. Like I couldn’t pick up the phone and talk to him about it. Just the way it was. I never did it. He never offered it.”Akshay further hinted at their family feud when asked if there’s been communication between both the families. However, he added that things are getting better now. He said, “No, not so much. I think now the families are doing a better job. I think all the older generation is getting a bit older and everyone’s realising that whatever happened in all these years, we can let it go. I am sure there were Punjabi ego clashes that had happened.”However, Akshay isn’t bitter about not getting any help from Vivek who was already a star. He said, “I am grateful because I think, maybe, in my head, their success made me think it was possible for me. Somewhere, I was inspired by it but there was no help.”Akshay was last seen ‘Fighter’ along with Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover. He will next be seen in Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan starrer ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’.
