‘Project Hail Mary’, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ among top 5 at US box office

'Project Hail Mary' retains top spot, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' slips to fourth place in second week at North American box office

Space adventure flick ‘Project Hail Mary’ topped the North American box office for a second straight week with USD 54.5 million in ticket sales, industry estimates showed Sunday. The space odyssey, which stars Ryan Gosling as a high school teacher enlisted to save the world, has so far, grossed an estimated USD 300.8 million globally. The Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed film, which is based on a novel by Andy Weir, carries a production budget of USD 200 million.

‘Hoppers’ scores USD 12.2 million haul

Standing firm in second place was Disney/Pixar animated hit ‘Hoppers’, with USD 12.2 million in the United States and Canada, according to Exhibitor Relations. As per Deadline, its worldwide gross currently sits at USD 297.6 million and should cross the USD 300 million mark early next week. The latest original film from Disney’s Pixar, which has a USD 150 million budget, tells the story of a young animal lover who uses technology to transfer her consciousness into a robotic beaver so she can better communicate and protect wildlife.

‘They Will Kill You’ debuts with USD 5 million collection

Debuting in third place was horror flick ‘They Will Kill You’ at USD 5 million. The Warner Bros film, which stars Zazie Beetz, Tom Felton of ‘Harry Potter’ fame and Oscar winner Patricia Arquette, tells the tale of a woman working as a maid in a mysterious New York building where disappearances are common.

‘Dhurandhar’ earns USD 4.75 million

Fourth place went to Hindi-language spy thriller ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ with USD 4.75 million in its second weekend at the box office. Released just three months after the original aired in North America, ‘Dhurandhar’ continues the story of an Indian spy infiltrating Pakistani crime syndicates and politics, seeking to dismantle a terror network.The film has so far collected an estimated total of USD 22.9 million at the North American box office, as per Deadline. The Aditya Dhar directorial, starring Ranveer Singh as an undercover agent has also broken the the record for highest grossing Indian movie at the North American box office, held since 2017 by ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’.As per Sacnilk, the film with its USD 22.9 million haul surpassed Baahubali’s USD 20.8 million record. Congratulating the team on the same, the film’s official handle tweeted, “Congratulations to @AdityaDharFilms and the entire team of #Dhurandhar2TheRevenge on breaking the 9-year-old records of #Baahubali2 and setting new box office benchmarks in India, USA and worldwide!”As per Venky box office, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has scored an overseas 10-day gross total of USD 34.25 million.Fifth place went to Universal’s romance film ‘Reminders of Him’ with USD 4.7 million.
