‘A parent’s worst nightmare’: 2 students killed, several injured in Tennessee school bus crash

A road accident in west Tennessee on Friday claimed the lives of two students and left several others injured after a school bus collided with multiple vehicles. The crash took place around noon on Highway 70 in Carroll County and involved a school bus, a Chevrolet Trailblazer, and a Tennessee Department of Transportation dump truck, the Associated Press reported.Officials said initial findings suggest that while the dump truck was present at the scene, it likely did not directly contribute to the collision.

Students were on field trip

The bus was carrying 25 students and five adults from Kenwood Middle School in Clarksville. The group was en route to Jackson, Tennessee, for a field trip when the accident occurred, according to a statement from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System.Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

Additionally, 19 people were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Carroll County, where they were evaluated and later discharged. It remains unclear how many among them were seriously injured.

School community in shock

The tragedy has left the school community grieving. Principal Karen Miller termed the incident an “unimaginable tragedy” in a message to families, urging parents to support their children emotionally during this difficult time.Counselling services will be made available to students and staff starting Monday. In her message, Miller appealed for unity and compassion, saying, “Please continue to pray with us for our students, families, faculty, and staff.”She added that the strength of the school community would be crucial in helping everyone cope with the loss and trauma.Authorities continue to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the crash.
