Zohran Mamdani gets heckled during a press conference, says 'If I don't hear him yelling at me...'

NYC mayor Zohran Mamdani gets heckled at a press conference. He chose to address the heckler.

New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani was interrupted by a heckler as he was addressing a press conference on affordable housing. As Mamdani was speaking, he segued to the heckler and said in NYC, all voices will be heard. “I want that man to be able to afford to keep living in NYC. If I don’t hear him yelling at me. If I don’t hear him yelling at me, it means he got priced out of this place. I don’t want that. I don’t want that for him. I don’t want that for anybody in this city. We need to make this city affordable enough to yell at your politicians. If it’s not the city, I don’t want to live in that city,” Mamdani said as the man continued shouting in the background.

Mamdani announced the Neighborhood Builders Fast Track, which he says will create a prequalified roster of developers. It will cut down on pre-development time for new projects from 18 months to 10 months, he said. The heckler started shouting when Mamdani asked during the press conference how many people present there had been crushed by rent year after year. “Who here has considered leaving this city because of the expenses it takes to call yourself a New Yorker? Who here has looked around the block and wondered where my neighbors have gone?” Mamdani said. The man continued shouting as Mamdani chose to address the shouting. “Mamdani has the unique skill of knowing how to handle and walk into every room and engage with people, no matter how toxic they are or how their feelings are against him. And many times, make them feel heard,” David Schwartz, former executive committee member of Brooklyn’s Democratic Party said, sharing the video. “Elected officials, nonprofit and religious leaders, advocates, and activists on both sides of the political spectrum who met with him told me that. Don’t take my word for it, President Trump is pretty public about it. That’s why he’s currently the mayor of New York City. If you don’t like his politics or you’re like me, who opposed his candidacy and is still troubled by some of his actions and statements, then don’t take this post the wrong way; read into it how you should be better to communicate your message,” the post praising Mamdani read.
