Following what is being described as the largest attack by Pakistan on Afghanistan, Afghanistan government spokesperson Suhail Shaheen strongly condemned the strikes in an interview. He claimed the attack was completely unprovoked and rejected Pakistan’s statement that civilians were not targeted. According to Shaheen, more than 400 people have been killed and around 300 injured in the airstrikes. He alleged that a rehabilitation center and hospital were directly hit around 9 PM, causing massive destruction, fire, and collapse of the facility. Relief authorities have indicated that the number of casualties is still rising. Responding to Pakistan’s claims about terrorist safe havens linked to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, Shaheen questioned why those alleged locations were not specifically targeted. Instead, he accused Pakistan of attacking civilian areas, including hospitals. He described the strikes as a “crime against humanity,” stating that targeting innocent civilians and public infrastructure is unjustifiable. He added that the matter of any response would be handled by Afghanistan’s defense authorities.
