Harry Styles, Anoushka Shankar light up Ryan Gosling’s SNL

Ryan Gosling’s on SNL: Harry Styles, Anoushka Shankar light up the set during his gig

When Ryan Gosling stepped back onto the Saturday Night Live (SNL) stage for his fourth time hosting, everyone expected a wild, hilarious ride. What nobody saw coming? Harry Styles and Anoushka Shankar are crashing the party and stealing some of the thunder for themselves.

What happened?

This March 2026 episode of the comedy show quickly turned into a star-studded spectacle. It wasn’t just the usual mix of sketches and music; it was one of those nights when celebrity surprises and internet-breaking moments kept popping up.Here’s what went down.

Harry Styles’ Explosive Comeback Turns Emotional As Singer Makes Heartbreaking Confession On Stage

Ryan Gosling’s return to SNL

Gosling’s back for round four, and by now he’s one of SNL’s most entertaining hosts. He kicked off the night with a monologue full of jokes about his upcoming sci-fi movie, Project Hail Mary, then jumped into a musical number about Earth. Pretty standard for him, until the camera cut to Harry Styles sitting in the front row. Suddenly, the whole room switched focus: forget the monologue, Harry Styles was in the audience.

Harry Styles takes over the spotlight

Nobody expected to see Styles in the crowd: not viewers at home, not even Gosling, apparently. The Grammy winner showed up because he’s set to host and perform next week, but he just couldn’t resist checking things out early.Gosling started his monologue talking about how March is a great time to host SNL in New York, then did a double-take. “Is that Harry Styles?” he asked. The camera swung over to Styles, who grinned as the crowd went nuts.“What are you doing here, man?” Gosling asked.Styles shrugged, “I’m hosting next week and it’s been a while, so I just wanted to watch, get a feel for it.”Gosling laughed, “That’s so professional. I just wish someone would have told me. I have a new movie coming out, it’s called Project Harry Styles. Nope — but that’d be a good movie. It’s actually called ‘Project Hail Mary’.”He kept riffing, “People are saying it’s like E.T. meets Interstellar, which is wild because those are two of the best movies ever, so what — double that? I don’t know, I didn’t say it.”As Gosling went on about perspective and space movies, the camera found Styles again, nodding along. Gosling stopped. “Sorry, why are we on Harry Styles?” Styles just smiled and said, “I don’t know, I’m just listening.”Gosling shot back, “Well, could you listen less cool? Your coolness is kind of becoming a problem.”Later, Gosling sang a bit of Styles’ “Sign of the Times,” then swung into the now-iconic “I’m just Ken” from Barbie. It was chaotic, funny, and totally on-brand for both of them.

Anoushka Shankar’s standout performance

And then, in the musical segment, another surprise: Anoushka Shankar, the world-famous sitar player, joined Gorillaz onstage for their new song ‘The Moon Cave.’ The set was packed: Asha Puthli, Black Thought, and Shankar all together, blending genres and styles you don’t see on SNL every week.Shankar’s sitar brought an unmistakable Indian classical sound to the track, making the performance stand out from the usual SNL fare. For Shankar, who’s Ravi Shankar’s daughter, it was another huge moment in the spotlight, and a seriously cool way to introduce the sitar to a massive American audience. For the unversed, Harry Styles just dropped his fourth album, ‘Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally’, and he’s up for hosting SNL next week. So, this week’s appearance surely seemed like a dress rehearsal for him. Go to Source
