Story of the supernatural thriller

‘Shaitaan’ follows the story of Kabir, played by Ajay Devgn, who lives with his family in what initially appears to be a peaceful environment. His family includes his wife Jyoti, portrayed by Jyotika, their teenage daughter Jahnavi played by Janki Bodiwala, and their son Dhruv, played by Anngad Raaj. The narrative takes a dark turn when a mysterious stranger named Vanraj Kashyap enters their lives. The character is portrayed by R. Madhavan. Soon, the family begins experiencing disturbing events when the stranger appears to gain control over the teenage daughter. Under his influence she begins carrying out dangerous and bizarre actions.

ETimes review of the film

At the time of its release, the film received mixed to positive responses from critics and exclusive review by ETimes highlighted the film’s gripping atmosphere while also pointing out certain weaknesses in the narrative. Our review stated, “The narrative maintains a good pace and the treatment makes the movie gripping for the most part, although things gets a tad monotonous in the second half. Albeit not too suspenseful, the buildup is unnerving. The story has some unconvincing elements, and one scene gives away a pivotal plot point, which makes the climax predictable. Cinematographer Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti excels in creating an atmosphere of dread and darkness, further enhanced by Amit Trivedi’s music.”
