Mohanlal’s net worth: ‘Drishyam 3’ star’s earnings

Mohanlal’s net worth: How 'Drishyam 3' star built his Rs 400 crore empire with earnings, businesses and Rs 20 crore film fees

Superstar Mohanlal, a powerhouse in Indian cinema for over four decades, is reportedly worth USD 50 million. His earnings stem from substantial film fees, overseas rights, and successful business ventures including a spice brand. Mohanlal also demonstrates financial discipline, often absorbing losses for smaller films, and owns a film studio and theatres.

Mohanlal, fondly called Lalettan, is surely one of the most influential actors in Indian cinema. As the actor gears up for the highly anticipated release of ‘Drishyam 3’, let’s look at the superstar’s net worth.

Mohanlal’s four decades of stardom

Over the years Mohanlal has established himself as a powerhouse performer in Malayalam cinema, with a career spanning more than 40 years. During this period, he performed several characters ranging from comedy to serious roles, that have touched the hearts of every Malayali. According to a May 2025 report by Deccan Chronicle, Mohanlal reportedly charges around Rs 20 crore for big-ticket films. In addition to the fee, he also receives overseas rights in the Gulf region for some projects. However, the actor is said to be flexible about his remuneration. A leading producer told the same publication that Mohanlal often reduces his fee for smaller films. The producer stated, “He charges around Rs 5-6 crore for mid-scale films like Drishyam.”

Mohanlal’s entrepreneurial success beyond cinema

Apart from acting, Mohanlal has also ventured into the business world. One of his well-known ventures is a brand dealing with curry masala, spices, condiments, and pickles. According to Financial Express, the brand reportedly achieved sales worth Rs 3 crore from the Gulf market alone within the first six months of its launch. The same report noted that the brand captured around 1 percent of the Rs 2,000 crore spice market in the region during that period.

Mohanlal’s role of Antony Perumbavoor

A popular production company, reportedly founded by his long-time associate Antony Perumbavoor, has also played a major role in Mohanlal’s career. Over time, the banner has become one of the most successful production houses in Malayalam cinema, delivering several superhit films such as ‘Drishyam’, ‘Snehaveedu’, ‘Naran’, and many more. Producer Santhosh T. Kuruvilla recently spoke about Mohanlal’s financial discipline during a chat with Movie World Media. He explained how the actor personally takes responsibility when films face losses, adding that Mohanlal sometimes absorbs the financial burden if a project fails to recover its investment.Speaking about the actor’s transformation, Santhosh Kuruvilla added, “After Antony Perumbavoor came in, Mohanlal got good films and financial discipline. I came to know Mohanlal only after that. I do not know much about the period before. But Mohanlal himself once told me this.”

Massive earnings and net worth

Mohanlal’s earnings from films alone have been impressive. According to a report by Forbes India in 2019, the actor earned Rs 64.5 crore in remuneration from films in that year alone. The actor has diversified his income sources and his revenue streams include television appearances, brand endorsements, advertisements, along with business investments. Mohanlal also owns a film pre- and post-production studio based in Kerala’s capital city. Additionally, he runs a chain of movie theatres across the state.According to various reports, Mohanlal’s estimated net worth currently stands at around USD 50 million. Mohanlal was last seen in the pan-Indian film ‘Vrusshabha,’ which received mixed reviews.DISCLAIMER: Figures presented in this article are derived from various public sources and are considered approximate unless explicitly noted.
