Director on casting Madhuri Dixit in ‘Maa Behen’

Director Suresh Triveni opens up on casting Madhuri Dixit in ‘Maa Behen’: 'Madhuri ma'am is beautiful with comedy'

Madhuri Dixit-Nene instantly accepted ‘Maa Behen’ after one narration. Director Suresh Triveni, shifting to lighter storytelling post-Jalsa, praised her comic timing and dedication. The film, co-starring Triptii Dimri, Ravi Kishan, and Dharna Durga, features Madhuri as a fun-loving mother. Triveni admired her humility during 14 workshops and commitment to learning.

Madhuri Dixit-Nene immediately agreed to do ‘Maa Behen’ after the very first narration. Director Suresh Triveni shared that he was eager to explore the actor’s remarkable comic timing. He added that the team had decided Madhuri would be their first choice for the film from the very beginning.

Suresh Triveni turns to a lighter story after ‘Jalsa’

As reported in Mid-day, following ‘Jalsa’ (2022), filmmaker Suresh Triveni felt the urge to take a break from intense storytelling and dive into something more light-hearted. The film, revealed through a Netflix teaser in February, instantly grabbed attention thanks to its powerhouse duo, Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Triptii Dimri. Reflecting on the project, Triveni shared, “The casting was obviously ambitious,” as he spoke about the dark comedy that also brings Ravi Kishan and Dharna Durga into the fold.“We wanted to have three terrific women, and we were clear from day one that we would approach Madhuri ma’am for it. She readily agreed in the first narration. So did Triptii, Dharna, and Ravi Kishan. I was fortunate,” he shared.

Madhuri Dixit takes on a comic role in ‘Maa Behen’

In ‘Maa Behen’, Madhuri plays a lively, carefree mother whose personality often clashes with her sensible and restrained daughter, brought to life by Triptii Dimri. Director Suresh Triveni, a longtime fan of Madhuri’s effortless wit, wanted to tap into her comic charm in a fresh way. “As a viewer, I was dying to see how beautiful Madhuri ma’am is with comedy. We wanted to see her in that comic avatar, and we chased it.”

Suresh Triveni praises Madhuri Dixit’s dedication

Having directed ‘Subedaar’ with Anil Kapoor and ‘Maa Behen’ featuring Madhuri Dixit, Suresh Triveni finds himself fortunate to have worked with two of the most iconic stars of the 1990s. He shared, “Why we call them the OGs is that they are not done yet. They are still learning. For example, we did at least 14 workshop sessions with the three leads together for Maa Behen. Madhuri ma’am showed up. She didn’t say, ‘Since I have done so much work, I don’t need it.’ She learnt the required dialect. These stars aren’t complacent at all.” Go to Source
