“Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award,” Leslie said.Carrey appeared at the Paris ceremony on February 26 to receive the prestigious Honorary César Award. Soon after the event, some social media users claimed the actor looked different from his earlier years in Hollywood. The speculation led to conspiracy theories suggesting a body double or clone had appeared in his place. The rumors grew stronger after well-known drag performer and transformation makeup artist Alexis Stone shared posts online claiming he had turned himself into the actor. Stone posted photos from the event alongside images of a silicone mask, teeth, and wig. The post added to speculation among fans who were already debating the actor’s appearance. However, organizers of the César Awards also rejected the conspiracy theories.

César Awards organizers dismiss speculation

César Awards general delegate Gregory Caulier told media outlets that the claims were a “non-issue.” He explained that Carrey’s appearance at the event had been planned long in advance.According to Caulier, the actor worked closely with the awards organization and spent time preparing for the moment, including practicing his speech in French before the ceremony.Industry professionals also weighed in on the speculation. Prosthetics experts who reviewed images from the event said the person on stage was clearly the real actor and not a masked impersonator.Carrey has kept a relatively low public profile in recent years. Before attending the César Awards, his last major public appearance took place in November 2025 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. At that event, he inducted the rock band Soundgarden and reunited with his former co-star Taylor Momsen from the holiday film ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas.’Despite the online buzz surrounding the Paris appearance, Carrey himself has not publicly responded to the rumors. His representative’s statement remains the only official comment addressing the viral speculation.
