Mahavatar Narasimha becomes 53rd biggest hit of Hindi Cinema

‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ surpasses Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Bang Bang’ as 53rd biggest hit of Hindi Cinema

Ashwin Kumar’s animated mythological film, Mahavatar Narasimha, has achieved remarkable box office success, surpassing Hrithik Roshan’s Bang Bang in its Hindi version. The film has grossed Rs 176.25 crore net in 32 days, becoming the 53rd biggest Hindi grosser of all time. Its steady performance and strong word-of-mouth have defied expectations, proving the enduring appeal of mythological storytelling.

Ashwin Kumar’s animated mythological drama Mahavatar Narasimha continues to etch its name in box office history. After 32 days in theatres, the Hindi version of the film has collected Rs 176.25 crore net, surpassing Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif’s 2014 blockbuster Bang Bang, which had earned Rs 174.51 crore in its lifetime run. With this feat, Mahavatar Narasimha has officially become the 53rd biggest Hindi grosser of all time. The film, which retells the story of Hiranyakashyap, Prahlad, and the Narasimha avatar of Lord Vishnu, has struck a deep chord with audiences despite stiff competition from big-ticket releases like War 2, Coolie, and Saiyaara. What has surprised many trade analysts is the way an animated mythological film coming from a relatively lesser-known director has managed to hold its own against star-driven spectacles. The Hindi collections of Mahavatar Narasimha zoomed to Rs 32.45 crore in its opening week. The real turning point, however, came in the second weekend. By the end of it, the Hindi version had added an impressive Rs 54.95 crore to its kitty, proving that audience word-of-mouth was stronger. The film’s golden run continued well into the third week, where it amassed a remarkable Rs 53.75 crore, showcasing extraordinary hold. Even in its fourth week, when most films typically fizzle out, Mahavatar Narasimha managed to collect Rs 24.6 crore, before finally beginning to taper off.By its 30th day, the film still maintained solid momentum with Rs 3.6 crore coming in, followed by a stronger Rs 4.65 crore on Day 31 (Sunday). On Day 32, it added another Rs 1 crore, further cementing its position as one of the most surprising success stories of the year thereby collecting Rs 176.25 crore in Hindi. For director Ashwin Kumar, this success is nothing short of a career-defining moment, and for Bollywood, it is a reminder that mythological storytelling still has immense box office potential.
