The commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has stated that the military acted on the direct orders of the President, signaling that Washington considers its primary objective achieved. The reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, is being projected by U.S. officials as a major strategic victory, given the high level of security that surrounded him. However, analysts suggest that the bigger challenge now lies ahead. The question remains whether the United States can successfully influence or bring about regime change in Iran. While former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly called for elements such as the IRGC to surrender and has encouraged the Iranian public to assert control, resistance from Iran’s current political and military leadership appears strong. There are also reports of attempted retaliatory actions in parts of West Asia, including threats targeting U.S. interests and Israel. The coming days will determine whether Washington escalates further or whether diplomatic channels can prevent a broader regional conflict.
