In a strong display of indigenous military capability, President Droupadi Murmu undertook a sortie in the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand near Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, close to the India-Pakistan border. The helicopter, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, represents a major milestone in India’s push for self-reliant defense manufacturing. The LCH Prachand is designed for high-altitude warfare and precision strikes against enemy bunkers, armored positions, and terror launch pads, especially in mountainous terrain. Its deployment enhances the operational flexibility of the Indian Air Force, particularly along sensitive border regions. President Murmu, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has previously flown in fighter jets, and her latest sortie sends a strong message of confidence in India’s indigenous defense platforms. The move underscores the success of the Make in India initiative in the defense sector, reducing dependence on foreign imports. With regional security challenges evolving, the induction and endorsement of homegrown combat systems like Prachand highlight India’s growing air dominance and strategic preparedness.
