Mirabai Chanu makes golden comeback, wins 48kg gold at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships

Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu made a golden comeback by winning the women’s 48kg gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Ahmedabad. She has returned to competitive weightlifting after a long injury break.

Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu made a stunning comeback on Monday, August 25 as she clinched the gold medal in the women’s 48kg category at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Ahmedabad. Chanu lifted a total of 193kg – 84kg in snatch and 109kg in clean & jerk – to mark her return in style after a long injury break.

This was Mirabai’s first major competition since the Paris Olympics last year, where she narrowly missed out on a bronze medal. The 30-year-old had been struggling with multiple injuries in recent months, which forced her to miss several important events. Her gold in Ahmedabad is a major boost as she gears up for the upcoming international season.
