The courtroom drama, which features Taapsee as a relentless lawyer who refuses to bow down in her pursuit of justice, earned an estimated Rs 1 crore net on Day 1. According to a report by Sacnilk, the film crossed the Rs 1 crore net mark from 1,716 shows nationwide. Its gross total stood slightly higher at an estimated Rs 1.20 crore. However, the film recorded a low average occupancy of 8.4% across its shows.

Highest earning February releases

As per the report, ‘Assi’ ended Friday with one of the lowest opening-day collections among February Bollywood releases of 2026 so far. It trails behind ‘Do Deewane Seher Mein’, which earned an estimated Rs 1.25 crore on Day 1. About ‘Assi’

A press note the film’s plot reads, “‘Assi’, a relentless investigative thriller, unfolds through an intense, power-packed courtroom drama. As the film concludes, it leaves you questioning – Why didn’t I know this? Or did I? Justice must be served, but first, justice must be defined. Are those proven guilty the only culprits?”Shedding light on the film, Taapsee shared, “I felt it was time to bring these stories together and put them in front of people to remind ourselves that what we read as everyday crime news should never be normalised. These incidents are alarming, they’re happening around us, and they seem to be growing. Sometimes it’s not just about the crime itself, but also about how little we do to stop it in our own capacity. When we shaped this into a two-hour narrative, it became deeply moving for me as a performer, because it forces you to confront a reality we often look away from.”

‘Assi’ film cast

The film also stars Kani Kusruti, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Revathy, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Supriya Pathak Kapur, and Naseeruddin Shah in prominent roles. Go to Source
