Starting today, traveling on the Delhi Metro will become more expensive as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has revised its fare structure after nearly eight years. The new fare hike is distance-based, with passengers paying an additional ₹1 to ₹4 depending on the length of their journey. For short trips, fares for 0–2 km have increased by ₹1, while journeys between 2–5 km will cost ₹3 more. Passengers traveling distances of 32 km or more will now pay ₹64 instead of the earlier maximum fare of ₹60, marking a ₹4 hike. Similarly, commuters covering around 50–54 km will also face a ₹4 increase. On the Airport Express Line, the fare revision is steeper, with a maximum hike of ₹5. These new rates apply on all working days as well as Sundays and public holidays, ensuring uniform charges across the week. The DMRC has clarified that the fare adjustment was essential to manage rising operational and maintenance costs while ensuring service quality for passengers. Though the increase may pinch daily commuters, the Delhi Metro remains one of the most reliable and fastest means of public transport for the city’s millions of travelers.
